The airport at Johannesberg was modern and big. There were alot of restaurants, cafes, and shops. We had no problem killing 2 hours.
Our flight from J-berg to Zimbabwe was less than 2 hours but they still fed us a yummy hot meal with free wine and beer. A little more accomodating than the States!
We were met at the airport by a driver and "Esther" who works for The African Adventure Company. They drove us the 20 minutes to our hotel. Esther explained that unlike South Africa where most on the animals are in the fenced reserves, they come into the villages here. She warned us not to approach any animals and to always give them the right of way. We saw elephant crossing signs and a warthog crossing the street!
Our hotel, the Ilala Lodge, is very nice. It has thatched roofs and beautiful French doors out each room. Everywhere there are views of the spray coming off Victoria Falls, and you can hear their "thunder".
We checked in, got settled and joined Esther for a tour of the Falls. They are truely magnificent! We walked all along the path to many beautful viewpoints. The rainbows were almost amazing as the Falls. We wore ponchos and used umbrellas and got soaking wet. The spray from the Falls is incredible. We returned to hot baths and showers, drinks on the patio and a very nice dinner at the hotel. Chrs and Amy had warthog which we all tried. Tastes just like pork!
